Emerald's Fire x Blue Platinum x Shirinai x In the Darkness: The Loss
The feel of warm blood on my hands only made me feel more guilty. Jae had been taken under the cover of darkness and I was helpless to stop it. I left to give her the space and time she needed when the creatures of the night came and ripped her away without me knowing. I blamed only myself, how could I let things go wrong? It was my fault. Why didn't I see it coming? The feeling of her being gone tore a hole in my heart and soul. I was stuck in an empty, black, abyss of loneliness, confusion, and heartbreak. Jae was gone and it was my fault. I left only for a short while; what went wrong? Why couldn't I stop it? No matter how I went over every detail, every possibility, every circumstance, it was all my fault. I only blamed myself. Alone in the darkness of the home I built to protect her, I stood a dark soul-less figure, cold and empty. The feeling was slowly killing me. I was only doing what I thought was right when I left. Just outside the door of our home was the mangled bodies the creatures I had killed. The emptiness inside me led me to stagger over aimlessly to the lifeless body. Under the aging daylight I stared down at the monstrous creature. It was humanoid with deep, evil, seeding, black eyes; pasty white skin, and sharp predatory claws and teeth. The body reeked of old blood and stolen life. "Vampires" they called themselves. They used the blood and life force of people to sustain their own life. I examined the warm vampire blood that had stained my hand. The memory of me using my claws to the vampire's lungs from its chest cavity flashed through my head and I shuddered. My eyes gazed upon the dozen other vampires I had turned to lifeless carcasses. The once peaceful serenity that had settled outside my home was now a slaughter field of blood and death. They violated my home and took what I loved so I took their lives and had no regrets. I fell to my knees and stared at my blood stained claws. It still felt so helpless; I felt like dying. The pain I felt was unbearable. My entire existence revolved around Jae. In those moments without her life felt pointless. As I sat there, my eyes stayed locked on the house and my memory of Jae. I was glaring through glossy eyes at my heart's pain for the perfect past. A soft breeze hummed almost silently through the hills and flew over me. Something sparked inside the emptiness. Feral instincts, the crazed senses of an animal, from deep within grew. The breeze carried the live scent of Jae, and with the scent, hope. I rose from my knees, looked to the fading daylight, and knew I had to follow to save her. Returning into what used to be my perfect home and safe haven, I searched for what I needed under the bed. Clawing around for a short while, I found the hilt, and withdrew it from under the bed. The Aura Sword, a blade forged to feed off the wielder's energy and affinity in nature. It glowed black from the negativity that engulfed my mind and heart. Holstering it to my back, I reached for my face mask and pulled it down onto my neck. I had everything I needed and was ready to leave, I went to the bathroom and looked at my reflection; it wasn't normal. I wasn't the same person I always seen. It was someone half myself, half beast. Sharp canines and glowing green eyes laid just over the man I used to be. Half beast, it was how I felt. Was this some deep power from within or was this a result of Jae being taken? I was only a shell of the man I once was. Maybe it was the cause of it all. My mind raced and tangled only for moments then reality pulled me from the dark depths of my own emotions. I turned from my reflection and continue to leave. Through the house into the living and to the front door. Just before I exited, through the corner of my eye I noticed the shoulder armor Jae had got me sitting by the window. For a while my gaze was stuck on it then I turned back and looked into the empty home. I missed her so much. Memories of happiness and perfection took control of me and I began to cry. The life we lived so happy together. We lived in our own home that I built and she turned into a home in the scenic green hills. We spent our days together and all we needed was each other for everything to be perfect. As tears fell from my eyes it felt like I was losing my life all over again. The thought of taking my sword and beheading myself ran through my head; it would be so much easier. Something kept me from doing it; I felt she wasn't gone yet. She was still out there. I grabbed the shoulder armor, strapped it on, and left the house.
The scent trail ended at the graveyard. It seemed that it was a proper place for the monsters to nest. Under the twilight sky the whole are was covered with a thin gray mist. Rows of tombstones stood erect in silence; marking the resting places of the dead below the ground. Most of the grey gravestones were worn and crumbled from age and the whole cemetery was over run with over grown vines and bushes. This place of resting for the dead was eerily stained with the stench of unnatural death and blood. No doubt it was the vampires. I stood just at the front gate looking in, my mind confused and heart hurting but every inch of me searching for redemption.Taking no more hesitations, I pulled up my face mask over my mouth and nose and headed in. Everything was a dull grey, brown and black but I could see perfectly in the fading light. Soon the sun began to set. Orange, red, pink, violet, and dark blue lit the sky with fiery colors. I watched the change; it all slowly and predictably faded into the black of night then I continued to my walk to their lair. It wasn't long before the creatures showed their presence Behind me, two vampires crept through the darkness under the cover of the mist toward me. One of them got close enough and pounced. With the agility of a reptile, I side stepped letting the vampire land, and I snapped it's neck. It looked like a normal human besides the fangs, claws and eyes. The second one charged, and aimed for my neck with it's claws. I dropped and thrust my feet up in a handstand straight into the vampire's chest. It was knocked back from the impact; I drew my sword before it could recover and slashed it in half. Feral rage exploded inside me as I smelled the vampire blood that stained the ground beneath me. The faintest scent of Jae's life was still there and so was my hope. With the rage of a wolf I ran through the hazy darkness toward the lair with my sword drawn and pain in my veins. The next vampire met a swift end when my sword beheaded the monster. Onward I ran until I reached the grave keeper's hut and kicked down the door. An enormous, muscular vampire stood over a hole into the floor of the ragged hut. He hissed and bared his fangs at me; all the muscles in his body twitched. I pointed my sword at him and lashed out. He effortlessly slapped the sword out of my hands and tried to grab me. Fending him off with a onslaught of kicks, I attempted to regain possession of my sword. The huge vampire towered at least two feet above me and undoubtedly stronger than I was but he wasn't going to stop me. Unable to obtain my sword, I jumped onto his shoulders and buried my teeth into his neck. Warm blood squirted and filled my mouth as he began to scream and flail to get me off. He struggled and wailed, bumping into walls and letting out a horrendous screech. I tried snapping his neck but it was too thick. He finally managed to grab a hold of my arms and flung me away from him. I tried to get up but the monster smashed me with with his closed fists. He began a wild fury of bone shattering arm thrusts that I was barely able to fend off. The onslaught slowed for only a moment, enough time for me to repel him with a kick. I continued in with a series of kicks and slashes, not giving him any space but with one swing of his arm he knocked me back. In his final attempt to kill me he rushed in but with quick reflexes I grabbed his jaw and ripped it off. Blood sprayed everywhere as the huge monster screeched and clenched wheres it's jaw used to be. It began ravaging around aimlessly. Without hesitation, I slid around behind the creature, buried my claws into it's back, and tore it's spine from it's body. The carcass fell lifelessly to the ground. Triumph. I let out a savage roar as a swept up my sword and jumped down into the hole. The descent brought memory of the pain I felt when I first learned they had taken Jae. It was an unbearable thought until I landed on hard ground. It was an underground cave; their hive. The smell of rotting blood filled the air and was so strong it almost over powering. Even with my eyes that could see in the dark it was still hard to see. Evil and death was everywhere; I could sense it all. Hundreds of black gleaming eyes winced and leered at me. They were everywhere, on the ceiling above me, in front of me, and behind me; surrounded. Baring my fangs I let out a low growl and readied my sword. Something deep inside me knew I wasn't going to make it out. Everything around me seemed to move in slow motion as reality set in. The scent of Jae's life was all only in my head. In the darkest, most hopeless situation where I felt nothing but emptiness, sadness, heart break, and death was my own answer; a sense of false hope kept me holding on. There I found myself in a black abyss with nothing but my enemy ahead of me and a sword in my hand, ready to fight. I had to face my worst nightmare. I had to accept the truth. I lifted my sword and cut my hand. The warm crimson blood ran down my hand, dripped onto the floor, and the hungry leeches began to shift. One hissed and they all began hissing; they were going to eat me alive. I chuckled "This is it. I love you Jae." I whispered. There was no turning back, I had no choice. They all began savagely hissing and raged toward me; ready to take my life. I raised my sword and began to fight.
