The Darkness 9: Summit
March 23rd 5:11 P.M.
It was the night after the meeting with Axel and his crew. When I got home there were two beta vampires waiting for me on the steps leading up to my house. Unsure of what they wanted, I protracted my werewolf claws and readied myself. They told me they weren't there to fight or cause any problems but just to pass the message that Gina wanted to meet with me. I asked where and they told me the small industrial district on the tip of the north side of town. They also told me that she wanted it to be just her and I and she would meet me by herself. This didn't sound like a good idea but I agreed anyways. They told me to meet her at 10 P.M. by the meat packing warehouse before they stood and walked past me. It wasn't a good idea but I wanted to find out why the vampires were going to approach us the day before and this was my chance. I got on my phone and made my call.
10 P.M. That Night
I waited next to the Meat Packing warehouse. It was obvious that Gina had chosen this place because I wouldn’t be able to smell anyone over the smell of raw meat and blood. That night, like every other night in my city was cloaked in a dense fog. The moisture in the air built up in my nose and caused me to sneeze. “Sick, Manish?” Gina said. I followed where her voice came from to see she stood on the roof of the building across from me. As I thought, she showed up without me being able to smell her. “No.” I scoffed. The small vampire jumped off the roof and walked towards me. She appeared to be alone but I didn't let my guard down. When she got to where I was standing, she had a faint smile and looked dead me in the eyes. Something was strange, she was giving off a vampiric scent but was in her human form; the green eyed, brown haired human I knew her to be. “Hey.” She said “Hey.” I responded. She put her back against cement wall I was on the sat down next to me; I did the same and sat next to her. “How are you tonight?” she asked. “Shit, I’m alright.” I said. “That’s good.” She said happily. The short exchange of words almost felt like our conversations did before I was turned into a werewolf. It only felt that way and that was no reason to act like we were still friendly with each other. “Why did you want to meet up?” I asked getting straight to the point. Gina turned her head up and asked “What did you guys do to Marina?” Of course, Marina. I should’ve known it was about her. After they surrounded her once she sat with their hive, it was obvious something was going on with her. “Why?” I asked coldly. She remained silent for a while then, seemingly thinking, said “She doesn’t drink blood. She doesnt have to drink blood.” “Is that even possible?” I asked in shock. This was the first time I heard anything about Marina, or any vampire, not drinking blood. “You don’t know? Since the moment she turned she hasn’t drank a drop of blood; and you and the shaman were the ones with her that night.” She said with her nose up. I didn't like that she assumed we knew something about what was going on with Marina. “And? We saved her from her Wendigo possession but you knew that.” It was an answer left empty so she could fill my curiosity and give up more on their situation. “But what happened? What did you do?” She asked SHe grew excited and something changed. Up until that point her aura was well hidden but with that last question there was a flicker of her supernatural presence. “Black Eagle exercised the Wendigo spirit out of her.” I said. Gina became uneasy and anxious “That’s it? That can’t be all, what else happened? What happened before? What did Eagle do to Marina?” she stood up and dusted off her pants. “Nothing. Why does it matter if Marina drinks blood or not? She’s still a vampire.” I asked. Gina stopped cleaning herself and stood in from of me; there was a huge change in her demeanor. She was no longer anxiously friendly but now almost demanding. “Her not drinking blood takes her out of ranks in my hive. I need her to be a perfect fit as she should be.” She said in a low harsh tone. “Okay, but that has nothing to do with me. She is still a part of your hive and still falls under your leadership. What is the problem?” I tested. That was the question that set her off. She frowned and no longer hid her aura. It had the overwhelming feeling of death, death and magic, magic similar to Black Eagle’s. It had completely consumed her body and presence. She wasn’t human and way more than just an alpha vampire; her body changed. Her eyes glowed black, her claws grew, she smiled and bared 8 fangs instead of just 4. I stood and morphed to my werewolf claws, fangs and eyes; ready to confront her. “What are you?” I growled. “Loosen up, Manish.” She laughed. Her tiny body became thinner and her became face grave and slightly sucked in; almost looked like Wendigo possessed Marina. Her physical transformation gave away that she definitely wasn’t completely vampire but her aura was three times stronger. “No, what are you?” I demanded. She snapped, her little hand grabbed my throat and glowed black as she squeezed. “Tell me what you did to Marina!” She shrilled. She was stronger than I expected. Panicking and gasping for air, I clawed at her arm to free myself but couldn't. Unable to get her to let go, I lifted my leg and thrust it into her chest. I took a few steps back and watched Gina try to gather herself. It wasn’t until then that her power was unstable and fluctuating. Unsure of what to do next I put more distance between us. “It doesn’t matter what you are, Gina. I can still rip you apart.” I threatened. She stood facing the wall with her head hung low, shaking and quivering. Something wasn’t right, as the queen vampire, my kick should have been nothing to her. Her body shook more as her power began to raise and stabilize. Before she had a chance to fully recover, I smashed her face into the wall, put my foot in her back and pulled her arms back until they broke. She screamed “Damn it!” her power diminished and became unstable again. I backed off again and waited to see what would happen next. She turned and snarled “You win, Manish!” she said. Her arms began to glow black, she knelt down on one knee and blood spilled from her mouth. As the black glow reconstructed her arms from being broken, her power level continued to deplete and she slowly became more and more like a regular vampire. She looked at me and bared her fangs from the pain of her bones twisting and popping. It finally came to my realization that the black glow that was healing her was magic. “What are you? Vampires don’t use magic.” I demanded. She looked up at me with soulless black eyes gave me a pain filled smile. “I’m more than just an alpha vampire and the queen vampire. I’ve transcended that.” She laughed. “That doesn’t answer my question!” I growled. She coughed up blood again; she reverted back to 4 fangs now. “I’ve evolved to what few vampires have and become a Lich.” She cackled. “A…what?” I asked in confusion. Unsure where to handle the situation from there, I stood back and watched Gina regain herself. “Not even an alpha wolf like you stands a chance against a lich.” She threatened. “But you aren't a lich are you? You are a vampire and I can tear you limb from limb!” I snapped. She looked up and hissed and we faced off. We readied ourselves to fight but then something happened. It was in that split second that I caught a familiar scent that made my heart drop. Gina had caught the scent too because her head snapped to the direction it came from. My heart raced as she stared into the distant fog. “Don’t!” I snarled. She gave me an evil smirk then took off. Filled with fear, I turned straight from human to werewolf and gave chase. I wasn’t going to let her make it before me. Through the fog, I saw her nearing the source of the scent. With all the power and energy I could muster, I launched myself into the air and landed in front of Gina, cutting her off from her path. Bearing my fangs, I towered over her and let out a savage roar. As I readied to unleash my fury on her, she smiled and ran back into the mist. A feeling of relief came onto me but was immediately drowned out by confusion. Why did Gina turn tail so quick and run? Why was she smiling and what was her plan? There was a horrified gasp behind and I realized what Gina had done. Slowly, I turned around and faced my girlfriend Ana. She was so scared I could smell the fear. Her eyes were filled with tears and her heart sounded like it was skipping beats. She was petrified. At a complete loss for answers of what to do, I just stood there. What was she doing here? She had no reason to be here. We looked at each other, one in fear and the other in shock. She was so scared I could hear her breathing becoming shallow and heart pounding. Her body was going to give out and she was going to faint. There was no telling what else Gina had planned, I couldn’t let her faint. I made my choice. I looked into Ana’s eyes and returned to my human form. The fear fueled tears fell down her face. “Babe, we need to leave, now.” I whispered.
